Our Mission
The mission of Steiner House is the same today as it was when the co-op was founded: to provide graduate students with the opportunity to live affordably with others whose culture, politics, race, religion, nationality and class vary widely. By learning to share responsibilities and resolve conflicts co-operatively, members develop skills, understandings, and friendships that will later enable them to promote peaceful solutions to community problems wherever they live. Since its founding in 1936, nearly 1,000 students from 73 countries have benefited from its unique environment.
All activities necessary to provide safe, healthy and enjoyable living arrangements, including shopping, cooking, cleaning and building maintenance, are the collective responsibility of the House residents.
